1.
I want to give a shout to my homeboy Lupe Fiasco. He released his second CD titled
"The Cool" on December 18th, 2007 to great reviews. This music shows another side
to Lu: after his first CD everybody perceived him to be a nerdy skateboard kid. This
new music shows his true talents as one of the best Rappers out today. With all the ups
and downs that Lupe went through in 2007, I am proud to see that he stayed focused on the
business at hand and put out some truly great music. For more on Lupe visit his website at
"http://www.lupefiasco.com"
2. After all the months of deals on and off, it finally happened: Zu is officially
the new owner or the guy that sits behind the counter, depending on who you ask of Quads gym.
Kelly, the manager for most of the time I trained there, officially quit after the new owners took
over. I will miss Kelly. He was one of the last ties to the old Quads and the glory days. He was also
a person that I was happy to call a friend.
3.
I heard that Anthony "Herc" Watkins has retired from competitive bodybuilding. I have
always felt that Herc should have been a pro bodybuilder a long time ago; but, it never happened for him.
I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do onstage or not.
4. One of my companies, Sir Camelot LLC, is in the process of a deal with
a big name cable company that will forever transform the local fitness business. I will have more
to tell you once the ink is dry on the deal. Stay tuned.
5. It's official. LA Fitness opens in Lansing very soon. The old Dominick's
location right off I-80 on Torrence, will be the new site. LA Fitness has been positioning its clubs
lately to drive the final nail in Bally's coffin, which is in bankruptcy. People ask if am I concerned with
them opening so close to my club, Ratio 1:1. My response is that we cater to two totally different clientele.
Compared to restaurants they are a McDonald's and we are a Signature Room or Cheese Cake Factory.
Although people that prefer to eat often at upscale restaurants still sometimes swing through a
McDonald's drive-thru, when they really want a great atmosphere for their money and quality experience,
they want the best. That's Ratio 1:1 Fitness and Spa.
6. With the new year here, Chie is starting to get the competition itch again. We are
targeting some of the future shows and will keep you updated on "http://www.figureprodigy.com"
7. I want to say how proud I am of my daughter Lawanda who recently graduated
from Northern Illinois University. Lawanda is a great young women who also recently got married to
an equally impressive young man, Dre, who I am very proud to call my son-in-law. Lawanda is
going into biology research and her husband is going into law enforcement. They are also going to
own a side business in the future, most likely real estate. They have a bright future ahead of them and I
wish them the best of luck in their future. Until next month, see ya!

I guess after a lot of setbacks the deal is done. Zu and his backers
are the new owners of Quads gym. I have a lot of comments and opinions
about this, but I will hold off on them for a while. Running a health
club in this day and age is not easy. But I wish Zu the best of successes.
2. This brings me to my next bit of news. Seems that
a recently opened personal training club in the south suburbs is not
doing so well. Every time I pass by it’s closed, which is everyday.
When you don’t have enough pride in your club no matter how small
it might start out, and you start to train your clients some place else,
It’s just a matter of time before it goes down in flames. I gave
the owner this advice a long time ago. He did not listen and I see where
it got him.
3.
My schedule was really busy the entire month of August with
many functions to attend. I sometimes don’t like or feel comfortable
with these types of events, but one party that I attended was an exception.
The state senator Reverend James Meeks threw a party for his wife Jamell.
It was the big 50 for her and this was one great event. They rented
out the entire band shelter and stage area at Millennium Park, talk
about a first class event. It was great to overhear white people questioning
what blacks were throwing such a first class party.
4. Chie and I have decided on a wedding date in 2008.
Next year is already starting to shape up to be another extremely busy
but monumental year for us, with the completion and grand opening of
the club in January, Chie’s next show and her other business ventures
being completed as well as planning such an elaborate wedding. But we
won’t complain, God and life is good.
5. I recently started to concentrate more of my attention
on my other passion and company, Sir Camelot Investments LLC. This company
was created because of the need to raise money and banks not giving
it to me to fund future projects. Recently, I signed deals with other
business entities. One is to produce and market several workout DVDs,
as well as a lot of speaking engagements and appearances for Chie and
myself. I am in serious talks with several publishing companies to write
a book, which has been a lifelong dream of mine. I will keep you posted
as these and other projects move forward.
6. I recently spoke with Brian Smith. I was glad to
see after a long lay-off from bodybuilding that he stepped back onstage
and almost earned his pro card at the masters nationals by placing second.
According to those in attendance, and from the pictures I saw, there
was a strong argument that he could have won the whole show. I believe
and stated on this site before, that if Brian wouldn’t have suffered
severe health problems back in the 90’s, he would have been the
greatest bodybuilder ever from Illinois and would have taken our state
to a level of respect on the pro circuit that to this day we have not
accomplished. He possessed the total package and it showed in his ability
to step back onstage and still come within points of earning his pro
card after such a long time away from the sport. Congrats Brian see
you next year, hopefully.

My good friend Charles "Chilli" Patton, the mastermind behind
the success of Rap star Lupe Fiasco was found guilty of conspiracy and
sentenced to 44 years in prison. He is currently serving his time in
Menard prison. I knew of this a while ago, but was reluctant to write
about it on my site because Charles is a good friend and a very private
man and I tried to respect that for him and his family, whom I have
known for over ten years. After the big write up in the Sun-Times and
all the Internet coverage, there are not too many people that have not
already heard. Charles is currently appealing his sentence, good luck
Chill.Come home soon.
2.
Chie's 4th place finish at the Illinois State Championship held may
19th was a shocker to us and a lot of people that were in attendance
that night. Chie was down for a minute, as this was her lowest placing
in five years and she was at her best, or so we thought. I have learned
to not take the opinion of five people personally, it's only their opinion.
Chie is currently preparing for her next show, completing her calender
(Hot), and still filming footage for the release of her first workout
DVD, as well as her clothing line. Pictures and footage will be on her
site soon.www.figureprodigy.com.
3. The work at Ratio 1:1 fitness and
spa continues to roll on. We just completed the juice bar and added
an 8 count stepping class, belly dance classes and a full auto detail
service to compliment the already existing hand car wash. We are 95%
done, with the remaining 5% coming soon, so stay tuned.
4.
I hear Mark Notolli of Quads gym is looking huge, ripped and training
hard for his assault on the North American championship in September
in Cleveland. The winner of this show will be rewarded with an IFBB
pro bodybuilding card. I hope Mark can bring such a prestigious title
to Chicago bodybuilding. Good luck Mark.
5. A blast from the past: I heard John Reese who was
once a fixture at Quads gym and a South Holland detective, who abruptly
up and followed his new love to Norway. I heard he and his wife recently
had a baby girl. Congrats to John and his wife on the new baby, come
visit John.

Congratulations to Ratio 1:1 client and good friend
Sandi Jackson, wife of congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. Sandi proved the
Daley machine, the Beavers family, and a lot of local people wrong by
easily winning the 7th ward aldermatic election over Darcel Beavers.
Congrats Sandi and Jesse, you are truly building a political dynasty.
2. Big trouble at the Atlantic/1st and 15th record
label home of local rap star Lupe Fiasco. Recently, the founder and
co-owner of the label Charles "Chill" Patton was found guilty
of conspiracy. Chill is sitting in the county jail awaiting sentencing
and this conviction carries a possible 15 to 60 years in jail. I have
known Chill for a long time and truly hate to see him and his family
go through this. I pray everything turns out ok for him and his family.
3. Speaking of Lupe Fiasco, my condolences go out to
him. I heard he recently lost his father. Lu is a great young talent
and a great person. This had to be a roller coaster year for him. Finally
getting his CD "Food and Liquor" released, touring the world,
and being nominated for three Grammies on the upside. Losing his Grandmother,
Father and now his friend and mentor "Chill" on the flip side.
Life is weird that way, but i know Lupe is a survivor and will shine
through this. I heard he is almost done with his second album due out
this summer Entitled "The Cool", this will be another great
piece of work so go out and buy it.
4. I recently heard from Steve Holland. I have not
seen or heard from Steve in years and have always wondered how he was
doing. Steve is a pro bodybuilder from Illinois and one of the nicest
guys in the sport. He really showed me a lot of love and respect as
a young guy coming into the Illinois bodybuilding scene, which is something
that you sometimes really need. I always appreciated that, drop me a
line again when you get a chance Steve.
5.
I recently attend the Arnold classic, I had not gone to this show in
years. I needed the time away and the motivation. The show was won by
Victor Martinez over two time champ Dexter Jackson. The show was great
but seeing some old friends again was better. I got to chat with Shawn
Ray, who gave me his new DVD "Fitness over 40" this is a great
DVD. I really suggest you check it out. Also I got to kick it with my
guys Current Mr.
Olympia
Jay cutler and former 8 Time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. Their battle
this year at the Olympia is shaping up to be a true battle. They both
were in huge shape and showed me much love in spite of all the fans
crowding them for autographs. I got to hang out behind the booth, avoiding
the massive crowds. I can't wait for this year's Brawl onstage at this
years Olympia. Good luck to Both Jay and Ronnie.
6. Upon returning from the Arnold classic I decide
to present myself with a personal Challenge to recapture my all time
best shape in 12 weeks. The first step was changing the gym in which
I have trained at for the last 12 Years. A change of scenario is sometimes
good. I got back to some serious hard core training with only one set
back. Two weeks into my training program, while doing bent over rows
with 365lbs., I severely tore my hamstring. But with the help of Boris
my masseuse, I did not miss much time away. Check out the progress pictures
in My Workout Journal Page, let me know
what you think.

2007 - EDITORIAL RESPONSE
Hey uz!
Why on almost the
last day of 2006 does yet another "wannabe trainer / wannabe business
owner / wannabe bodybuilder" have to run his mouth about me? I
really thought that because I have not been at the normal spot working
out; or bringing up any gym gossip on my site, I would avoid some jealous,
bad toupee wearing, hairy back, bad dressing, unemployed foreigner talking
about me . . . I guess not. Why must you try and put me down to talk
to a woman? Then again look at yourself in a mirror. You must try something
different than being yourself or stalking them. That’s what had
you doing weekends in the county jail and picking up garbage on the
side of the road for your community service, right? Then you want to
make statements about my business. I guess I could take lessons from
you. Oh I forgot, that’s right, you lost your business. No matter
how bad you claim I run a business, at least I know how to pay my taxes,
If not for the late great owner buying you a car you would still be
on the bus. What a site; a broke, so-called trainer with a simulated
road kill toupee held on by a dirty gym shoestring on the bus, with
a sweaty Afro back. I hope you thank the dearly departed often. The
comments you made about my ex-wife and current fiancé . . . at
least I have a woman. Does your right hand get tired or do you use the
left these days? The stalking laws state that when they say "stay
away," you must stay away. But you realized that only after you
had time to think on the isolated weekends in your cell. Then to say
that I thought about stripping in a gay club, now that was something
new and funny. What I think is gay is a hairy, broke, bad toupee wearing
guy carrying around a picture of he and I on stage competing from 12
years ago. That is really strange and kind of gayish. Now if you want
to really impress women with your competition resume, tell them about
how bad you looked when you got your ass kicked, that you were so embarrassed
and snuck out the back door and did not return for the mandatory night
show; and got suspended, not once but twice. Maybe you can show them
the pictures of how you dieted for 3 months, looked worse than before
you dieted, traveled all the way to Pittsburgh, got crushed again, and
did not show up again for the night show. Do the same trainers there
- whose butts you kiss everyday - know that you plan to kick them out
if your people were to purchase the gym? That’s also what you
said right? Do yourself, and those that you meet in passing a favor,
take the dirty gym shoestring from your cheap toupee, tie it around
a high pole with a short bench and jump.

in Chicago. The 7th ward Alderman race between the new breed of politics
of the Jackson vs. the old school powerful Daley machine represented
by his hand picked candidate Darcel Beavers. Stay tuned; this one will
get ugly.
2.
Congrats go out to Anthony ”Herc” Watkins who placed third
at the Nationals this past November. Herc always places well at the
big dance, most bodybuilders would be doing back flips to place so high
at this show but for herc this was probably not what he wanted and trained
so hard for.
I truly believe the first time herc moves up to light heavy, he will
turn pro.
Sean Smith, another
bodybuilder from Quads moved up a class to middleweight and placed a
respectable eight place. Congrats go out to both herc and Sean for repping
the Chi.
3.
It has been long rumored that Quads is up for sale, but now from what
I hear they are close to closing a deal with some relatives of Zu Hare,
a longtime bodybuilder and current trainer at Quads.
4.
Chie is starting her training prep for her next show, after her second
place finish at her last show. Chie and I are really going to train
hard and refine her physique to finally bring home that overall trophy.
I also heard the rumor that I will also be competing again at the Illinois
State in May. When I hear more on this rumor I will keep you updated.
5.
I wanted to send a special shout out and a congrats to someone who I
have always considered like a little brother. Big Steve Reese accomplished
his dream of opening up his own personal training studio. This is a
step that most only talk, dream and criticize about, rarely do any have
the guts to step out and do it. I am proud of you Steve.

November 6th 2006, my good friend an boxing sensation from Gary, IN,
Duke "I Got Next" Tanner was found guilty of conspiracy and
possesion with intent to distrubte cocaine. Sentencng will be in a few
months. I truly pray that after maybe making some wrong choices, Duke
can do his time and get out with enough of his youth to rebuild his
life. I was at the trial and I really saw firsthand how the justice
system does not favor us. Am I saying Duke is Innocent? No I am not.
But is he guilty of the extreme picture they painted of him? I don't

Jay cutler makes
history! This past weekend Jay cutler defeated eight time Mr.Olympia
Ronnie Coleman. Check back, full details coming soon!
1.
The greatest news lately to me personally is the success of Lupe Fiasco's
first CD release "Food and Liquor." This release
was predicted to be one of the best hip-hop albums in years and did
not disappoint anybody. I have not heard this type of great music since
the early days of prince. Most people are bandwagon type and early on
when I stated on my site, what Lupe would mean to the music industry,
people said, "Lu who?" But just like Mike Jones would have
said, back then they didn’t want me but now that Lupe is hot,
they on me. My next prediction “Sir Earl” and Ratio 1:1
Fitness and Spa will be number 1 in the fitness game by year's end.
See you then all you band wagon people.
2.
Chie placed another undeserving second at the continental USA championship
in St.Charles, IL. After the show, most in attendance came up to Chie
to say they felt she had the best physique in the show. Judges have
their own opinion and they are the ones that have the final say so and
I can respect their decision. This makes Chie and I train even harder
for her next show which is coming real soon.
3.
Since the day that I knelt on one knee and proposed to Chie on that
crowded body building stage last June in Bloomington, the number one
question that we are always asked is, "When is the big day?"
We have decided on a date in 2007. Me being very public would love to
share it with you, but Chie said let’s keep this part of our life
private. Stay tuned, I will sneak and tell you soon, do not tell her
I said this.
4.
On a much larger note Jesse Jackson Jr. announced that he would most
likely run for mayor of Chicago. I think if any one can unseat Mayor
Daley, Jesse would be that person. On a funnier note, Rev. Meeks said
they have him listed third in the race behind Jesse and Daley and ahead
of the other two candidates, and he is not even running in the election.
Until next moth, peace out.

1. I attended
the junior nationals again this year. Normally this show has a great
turn out, but this year I
think
the number of competitors were down and so was the quality. The highlights
were seeing my boy Vince Taylor guest pose, although they messed up
his music. Hanging out with my boy marvelous Melvin Anthony, who was
looking huge
preparing for the Olympia. One of my good friends Phil from Florida
placed fifth in the heavyweights, which was awesome considering the
personal ups and downs he had last year. No one repping at the show
from the Chi except Reggie who did not place well at all.
2. I hear Zu Hare
from Quads is preparing for the Masters Nationals in Pittsburgh in
July. Chuck Sanow won this show last year to turn him Pro. I have
seen Zu training at Quads but have not seen him without big baggy
clothes on, so I can't comment on how his body looks. Good luck Zu.
3. Another Quads
member talked about how they would prepare for the Illinois state
without help from me or Ratio 1:1, to prove they
can do it by themselves. Well the show came and went without you taking
the stage, so I guess the proof is in the pudding. Enough said.
4.
I
hear that Herc is starting to prepare for the nationals in October
or November. I have always stated that Herc is a pro waiting to happen.
Keep the focus and make it happen this year Herc.
5. My man
Lupe fiasco had to push back the release date of his new C.D food
and Liquor from June til August, because it was so heavily bootlegged
on the Internet. Even with the leak all the magazines are saying it
is the greatest music to come into hip-Hop in ten years. Stay tuned!

know I speak for all of Ratio 1:1 clients and staff when I
say we will truly miss his warmth and humor. He is in a better place

1. My deepest
condolences go out to one of my favorite clients, Tony Orellano and
his son Matt, on the loss of their father-in-law and grandfather. This
loss comes almost exactly one year after Tony lost his wife, the
daughter of his father-in-law that just passed. My heart really aches
for Matt, Tony’s son. As adults we can adjust and move forward, but
for a young man to lose two of the closest people in his life is
mentally devastating.
My condolonces go out to the Mccowan family of University Park on the loss of
their beloved wife and mother Cheryl. I have known the Mccowans for about 15 years and actually trained Cherly for the first few years she was diagnosed with cancer.
I have attened a lot of funerals lately, this latest loss hits closer to home. My truly good friend and massage therapist Dr. B lost her mother to a very long Illness. Felicia has truly been a great friend and a valuable assest to Ratio 1:1 and the future Next Level Training Center. My heart goes out to the entire Blasingame family, keep God first.
2. One of my clients,
whom I have not seen a lot stopped at Ratio 1:1 the other day
to say hello. I told all the readers of this site about Lupe Fiasco
about two years ago, now Lupe has grown from a local no name rapper to
one of the hottest rappers in the world within two years. Lupe has a
sneaker deal with Reebok, a clothing line, a line of designer
skateboards, a radio show and a hot song (touch the sky) and world
tour with Kanye West. Lupe has accomplished all of this, and his new
CD Food and Liquor does not even come out until June 27th,
Lupe's future looks very bright. Learn more about Lupe at
www.lupefiasco.com.
3. The new Illinois
bodybuilding schedule came out; it looks the same as usual with one
exception. Jeff Johnson will co-promote a second show in September.
Jeff is, in my opinion, one of the best promoters in the nation, and
this should be a great show. The season starts April 1st in
Ottawa, IL. What is supposed to be the crown jewel of Illinois
bodybuilding, the Illinois State Championship will take place on May
27th. For more info., log onto

4. I have heard
rumors that Quads Gym is once again up for sale. The new owner tom
bought the gym after the previous owner Tom Milonvich passed away a
couple of years ago. Quads is a great gym and one of the last true
hardcore training gyms around. I hope everything works out and the gym
will continue to be what it has become, known for true hardcore
lifting.
5. Eddie Coan of
Quads Gym recently did a great photo layout for Flex magazine. Eddie
has been at the top of power lifting since he was eighteen years old
and still going strong. Proving age does not play a role in your
ability to remain number one, It’s all in the heart.

My Reply
to Mr. Freeman
I knew the talk and half truths would
start soon, I recently heard some of the things you have said, and
they are nothing different than what the other people that were
fired from here have said, I thought you might be able to be
original, guess not. But I want to help you complete some of the
other halves you did not tell. You did not quit, you were fired, and
all those clients that you claimed followed you, all two of them
came from where? Ratio 1:1, not you. The great "I am closing
soon" lie, that has been told since the day I opened. Check my
history pal, each year I get better, not worse. I find it funny that
you have a lot to say when I am not there, but you see me almost
every day. Cat got your tongue or you have some of that fake hair
caught in your throat.What
were you when you came to Ratio 1:1 three years ago looking
for a job, an out of work fake wanna-be trainer and body builder.
Man, I guess some things in your life never change huh, That's
called coming full circle. You feel because you competed, you have
accomplished something, what part of getting on stage did you do
yourself? That weak ass lifting you call training, your music, your
posing trunks, your tanning. we did all that. I even tried to teach
you how to lift and introduced you to quads so you didn't even do
that yourself. But now you try to bad mouth me, come on bug eyes
check your facts.
Here is a message to you and everyone
that tries to pass judgment on me. I have won an overall bodybuilding competition,
not second, I have trained other bodybuilders to win national
titles, I have promoted bodybuilding shows and seminars, I have
owned four clubs and counting, I write my own monthly column, I have
designed and operate(3) web-sites, I wear my own clothing line, and
most of the ones running their mouths have had to work for me, so
even if it all came to an end tomorrow I have accomplished more than
all of you clowns combined could ever even dare to dream about.
If
you can match me on even one out of the few things I have mentioned
then maybe you might have a slight chance of bad mouthing me.
But
until that time Mr. Freeman, keep working on your legs, they look
about as bad as your hair and eyes. Nice talking to you.

1.I
guess the biggest news in bodybuilding was the arrest of Craig Titus
and Kelly Ryan.
They
were arrested in Boston after fleeing Las Vegas for murder. Allegedly,
they murdered their live-in assistant, who was alleged to be having
an affair with Craig. Placing the body in the trunk of Kelly's jaguar
and setting the car on fire. They have ran this story on almost every
major magazine and news channel.

I knew Craig through passing and
attending parties that he and Kelly used to host. This is such a sad
occurrence. My one hope is that the press does not try to tie it into
roid rage, which Geraldo has already tried to do. To me it sounds
like a love triangle gone bad, do not make it reflect bad
on other bodybuilders.
2.My man Duke "I got next"
Tanner will start his trial next month. From what his attorney is
saying, Duke has a lot of good things going his way and should be
getting out on bond soon. Let the newspaper tell it, he will be sent
up for a while. I have faith that Duke will be home and resume his
boxing career very soon!
3. Here at Ratio 1:1, another
Trainer bites the dust. We had to retire another trainer to the home
of the Ratio Rejects. Free to roam with the rest of the rejects and
spread rumors about how bad a guy I am, and how I have no idea how to
run a business. My question is if my place is that bad, why does no
one quit, but they all get fired. I heard recently, someone that I
thought I respected, ask how am I still in business. Well I will try
to answer some of the questions and comments that I hear one at a
time.
First- I don't sponge off
the skills of my women, to ride fancy cars.
Second - In order to critique my business,
you must first own your own.
Third -my mother does not take care of me, I take care of myself.
Last but not least, I am blessed by the
best, you play trainer, I am Trainer. Flat out plain and simple, I am
better than you, you, you and you. I hope this helps you out.

Kelvin
Freeman - Ironman Championship
The weekend of December 3rd 2005, held at
the Gateway Theater, was the Midwest Ironman Bodybuilding
Championship. Two good friends of mine did an outstanding job:
Kelvin Freeman
- A top Trainer for the last few years here at Ratio 1:1,
Kelvin became inspired by watching the success of Chie's competition.
Kelvin decided that he wanted to give bodybuilding a try, and after
almost six months of hard dieting, he kicked ass in his very first
show. Kelvin placed second as a lightweight competitor, not only in
the novice (beginner) division, but also the open lightweight class,
great job Kelvin!
Mark Nottoli
- Mark trains at Quads Gym and is a Chicago police officer. After not
stepping on a bodybuilding stage for almost thirteen years, Mark
needed a challenge. What better way than to train like an animal and
step on stage with some of the best bodybuilders from the Midwest. I
have known Mark for over ten years, and it was great to see him win
the heavyweight class and overall honors at the Midwest Ironman. This
picture captures his excitement as he is announced the overall winner.
Congrats from "Sir-Earl" to both Kelvin and
Mark.
NEWS FLASH
UPDATE
The
National Bodybuilding Championship was held in Atlanta the weekend of
November 19th. There were several athletes from Chicago that
competed in this prestigious event. Here are their placings:
Steve Reese - Placed
23rd out of a field of twenty-six super heavy weights. This
level of competition is serious.
Sean Smith – Sean
placed fifth in the welterweight class. After placing very well at the
Junior Nationals, I think second or third. This was the next logical
step for Sean. Great job, stick with it and you will go pro Sean.
Audrey Pedren –
Placing a very respectable third in the women’s heavyweight class was
probably the best any female has done from Chicago in a very long time.
Congrats go out to Audrey and her husband Gerald. I know they trained
their butts off for this show.
Editorial
I thought I might be able to make it out of 2005 without someone
talking nonsense and me needing to respond, I guess not. I really think
ex trainers of Ratio 1:1 should spend more time trying to keep
their head above water instead of making up lies about how I asked, no
make that “begged” them to come back to work here. That was you that
drove around trying for days to locate my new place, so you could
apologize to my face right? Maybe that was just another one of your
games to get me to give free advice to help you start your own business.
Did you really think that I would fall for that? The same advice that
you were given about staying at Ratio 1:1 was the same advice
that I gave you that night, does not sound like begging to me. The same
way you tried to be slick that got you fired, was the same way your
negotiations failed to get you rehired. I guess some people never learn,
maybe you will have time to think as you take that long drive to meet
your one of two clients, how much is gas prices these days?

I was asked once again to speak at two of the schools where I spoke
at last year. Every year students vote on which speaker they might
want back, I am most often the top vote getter. This is always a
honor, I truly love speaking with kids. I will speak at Wood Gate
Elementary in February. This picture captures Chie and I enjoying
lunch with the students of the month at Berger-Vandenberg Elementary
School in Dolton.
2.
I saw “Big” Steve
Reese training at Quads recently. He was completing his final prep
for the Nationals held in Atlanta the weekend of November 18th
and 19th. Steve told me that he was going to the
Nationals to see how he stacks up against that level of competition.
I feel if you have not won your State title and done well at the
Junior Nationals, the only way you should be at the Nationals is as
a spectator. I guess some people like an expensive ass kicking. The
guy that places 25th pays the same for hotel, contest
prep, entry fee and travel expenses as the guys that place in the
top five. Where would you want to spend your hard earned money, my
guess would be wait until you know you can place well.
3.
Shawn, who placed
second at the Junior Nationals and also trains at Quads is also
preparing for the Nationals. Kelvin, a trainer at Ratio 1:1
is preparing for the Midwest Ironman held December 3rd.
Mark, a Chicago cop that works out at Quads is also competing in the
Midwest Ironman and should do very well. I saw him training and he
was looking great. I wish all these guys the best of luck.

The weekend of
November 12th, Ratio 1:1 appeared at two health and fitness
business expos. One was held at South Suburban College, the turnout
was low but we made the best of the opportunity. The second expo was
held at the House of Hope. In case you live under a rock and have
never heard of the place, this is the new church of Rev. Senator
Meeks and seats 10,000 members. This expo was a great event and we
expect to receive a lot of business from participating in this
event.
5.
We continue to
complete the finishing touches on the new Ratio 1:1 Fitness
and Day Spa. I expect this project to be completed by the first of
the year, just in time for our Grand Opening and the New Year's
Resolution crowd. The early stages of construction on our second
location has just begun, I will keep you all posted on the progress.

1.The first
topic of news is near and dear to my heart. The death of Gwen
Lipscombe, the wife of Connie Lipscombe, owner of My Jewelers in
Calumet City. Gwen had a long bout with Lupus, I met her 5 or 6
years ago when she was in remission from chemo. I trained Gwen for
about a year, really got her nice and strong, and she kicked lupus
in the butt. That is the reason everyone thought she would defeat it
this time also, but God had other plans for her in heaven. Connie
and Gwen are first class people, whom I consider great friends and
my heart goes out to Connie and their daughter Rocky on their loss.
I will be there for them any way I can.

Congrats go out to
my homeboy Darryl Hill on his trade from the Tennessee Titans to the
Kansas City Chiefs. D.hill is a great receiver that was not given
his just dues in Tennessee, and I predict he will have a great
football career in Kansas City. Update - How quickly news changes,
since writing this Darryl suffered a hamstring injury and was cut
from the Kansas City Chief’s football team. Get healthy D.hill and
show K.C. what they missed out on by coming back stronger with a
different team next year.
3.
My man Shawn Ray’s
wife Christy gave birth to a beautiful little girl named Monee Asia
Ray. Shawn was one of the greatest bodybuilders in history and
showed a lot of guys how to make a living in this sport. Shawn is
carrying that same mass with class into being a father, husband, and
a man of God. Also an executive with Vyo-Tech Supplement Company. I
have always used Shawn’s career as a guiding light .The strides and
changes that he has taken since his retirement is nothing short of
spectacular, and it shows that you can be a champion and a well
rounded person before, during and after your bodybuilding career. I
know Shawn will use this great occasion to get back that dinner that
he had to treat me too at the last Arnold classic. The steak dinner
is on me Shawn, you and the misses deserve it.
4.
What can I say about
my homeboy Lupe fiasco, I mentioned on this site a year ago that he
would be the next greatest rapper to emerge from the Chi; Lu blew up
way beyond my expectations. Lu has a hit on Kanye West's new CD
entitled “touch the sky.” At the present time he is on tour
with Kanye over seas. Lupe’s hit single “Kick push” is featured on E
A sports NBA 06 and also Tony Hawks skate game, he has a new line of
skateboards and a new Gym Shoe line coming out soon. All this and
his new CD “Food and Liquor” is not even out until the first of the
year. For more Info on Lu go to

My Girl Chie has
been busy of late preparing to compete in December, starting her new
company Figure Prodigy Enterprises, running the vast business duties
of Ratio 1:1, her new clothing line "Figure Prodigy" is ready, and a

new video with Lupe Fiasco for his single “Kick Push”. These are
just a few of the many things that Chie is doing. For more info and

Editorial - Sorry
goes out to the readers of this site for the late updates. I have
been extremely busy finishing the new 7,500 sq.ft. Ratio 1:1 fitness

on these stories next month. Until then, keep dreaming. I know my

My Man Mr. Entertainment
himself “marvelous Melvin Anthony” was in town for the Junior Nationals
and stopped by for a workout in the “Mecca” Quads Gym. I hung out with
Melvin the previous weekend in Bloomington. Melvin will keep you
laughing 24/7. I had to run him around Bloomington because t
he airline
lost his luggage. All weekend he joked about having to shop for all his
clothes at Wal-mart until they found his luggage. The shirt that he wore
that they told him was a 2x could not have been bigger that a large. I
have known Melvin since he guest posed for me in 2000 and to see the
level his career is at, I am very proud of him. I will make it out to
L.A soon to see the new crib.
4.
I spoke with another good
friend of mine, Shawn Ray. He was suppose to be in town for the Junior
Nationals, but chose not to because he and his wife were moving into a
bigger house. Shawn and his wife are expecting their first child in a few
weeks. He and Melvin have been on me because they always come to the Chi
and I have yet to go kick it with them on the west coast. Congrats go out
to Shawn and his wife on the soon to be addition to the family. Keep the
spare room clean Shawn, I am coming.
5. The Junior Nationals
had a great turn out as usual, this guy named Phil Heath from Denver won
the heavyweight and overall. The report on our locals that entered is
Reggie Anderson, who won the Illinois State, overall placed seventh. Eric
Sain, a Chicago cop who Reggie beat at the State, placed third in the
Heavies. Sean Smith from Quads gym placed second in the Welterweight
Class. Now, I know I will probably get hammered for these comments but
these are my opinions... What makes competitors from here think that they
can do well at the National level if they cannot dominate or win their State
level shows. Just because you qualify does not mean you belong there. That
being said, some young lady that Will trained got clobbered in figure.
Placing 50th out of fifty. Crystal Hill failed to make the cut
in figure. Zu Hare, after placing fourth last year got bitch slapped so
bad he refused to return to the night show. I feel Zu made two mistakes,
one was listening to people at the gym while preparing for the show. Go
with your best look, do not try to make a certain weight class, they judge
by how you look, not how much you weigh. Secondly, it shows very poor
sportsmanship to not return to the night show. I know as a competitor the
last thing you want to do when you are getting that butt spanked is to
return to the night show, because there are a lot more friends and family
out there. But as a warrior you put on the trunks, take your introduction,
and start preparing for the next battle. People are going to say what they
want to say Anyway.

CHIE'S
ILLINOIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
1. Chie places a controversial Second
Place in the 2005 Illinois State Regional Figure Championship. Details
coming soon.

IL State 2003, 5th Place
IL State 2005, 2nd Place
What a Difference Two Years Make!
2. I have to put this person on blast. Why
is it that some people can only see their worth through the
accomplishment of others? I said that I will not respond to talk
unless I know it to be true, well Mr. Ivory Lofton has gone and
stepped all in it. I need to set some facts straight once and for all.
Ivory constantly goes around telling anyone that will listen that he
gave me my start in the business, trained me for my first Victory in
1994 and that my club Ratio 1:1 is in competition with his club. Let's
dissect these claims with facts.
First; my club could not be in competition with his club for several
reason. We are two far apart demographically. I specialize in
one-on-one training, I do not know what he calls the training he does.
I have the highest caliber equipment, he has equipment purchased at
Sears. I do not say this to sound cruel, ask anyone that has ever been
in his club and they will tell you the same thing.
Second; I began to work for Ivory in
April of 1994. I worked for Bob's Gym, in Park Forest in 1990, for
three years. Most lifters in the South Suburbs know this, so how did
he give me my start. When I began, he was in a 900 sq. ft. location
with 38 members. When I quit, he was in a 2100 sq. ft. place with 240
members. This Increase was due to the selling ability I learned at
Bob's Gym. So who gave who their start?
Third; the notoriety that his club
gained by my overall victory in 1994 is the reason that he trains
people to get on stage now. Ivory says he trained me, only I have
trophies from 1991 and 1992. How did that happen if he trained me for
my first show? How can you prepare someone for something (overall
victory) that you never could accomplish?
I write this because I am tired of
false claims about who helped me. Any reader of this site knows all
too well who I credit with helping me. I have no problem giving credit
where credit is due. I heard you have mentioned to outside people,
telling people not to participate or attended my bodybuilding shows
and seminars. That I do not pay people and I was going out of
business. When you make these false claims, they affect my livelyhood,
which is how I put food on my table. Did you forget to say how I
worked a couple of months for you for free because your business went
through a rough time? You always make the statement that no one that
works for you stays there. Ever thought about growing your business to
where they can grow as people, The Napoleon complex is not just a
theory. Grow up, it has been almost ten years Ivory.
3.
I have been speaking with John Hansen lately; John is promoting a new
book. He is also a writer for Ironman magazine, and in the future he has
plans to open a training studio. I first met john in 1994 at a show I
competed in, and he was the guest poser. Although I met john years ago,
we only started really talking in the last few years and I have grown to
respect him and what he is trying to do for Natural Bodybuilding.
Support your own, go out and get the book. John’s training principles
must work because he holds some major bodybuilding titles Including Mr.
Natural Universe and the Mr. Natural Olympia Title.

Ratio 1:1 manager
Chie Terui is preparing to compete at The Illinois State Championship on

I Love this time of year -
competition is in the air. People are training hard, bodies are looking
good and the weather is warm. This is what I love about Chicago. Some of
the people that are in contest-prep mode are Chuck Sanow for the masters
Nationals in July in Pittsburgh, Ko Chendetka for the North American
championship held in September in Cleveland and Zu Hare for the Junior
Nationals in June, here in Chicago.
6.
I spoke with Kendall Gill
a while ago, and he told me that he was training to get into boxing. Well
sometime in June he will have his first amateur fight as a cruiserweight.
I wish him well. I learned when I was training Duke that boxing is a tough
sport. I saw Kendall the other day and he was in great condition, he is
also talking about maybe going back into the league next year. Good Luck
Kendall.
7.
I hear that Anthony “Herc”
Watkins, is in training for the Nationals in November held in Atlanta. I
truly hope this time Herc does not try to get down to a middleweight and
also uses Chad services again. He really should have been a pro in 1998, I
hope he puts it together, gets the card and represent for Illinois.
8.
I heard a rumor that Will Franklin and Rodney
Harrison are opening a gym in Markham. Will has not personally said
anything to me; I know this is a dream of Will’s to someday open a gym.
Same as with big Steve Reese, who I also hear is in the process of opening
a gym. This is a tough business and a lot of people try and fail. My
advice to Steve, Will or anybody that dreams about starting their own
business. Learn from great teachers like I had. The late Tom Milonvich of
Quads Gym and Cornell McCullough of Naturally Fit was the best teachers,
but only if you open your ears and listen to what they have to say.
9.
I spoke with a
friend recently, whom I gave advice two years ago; and that was to get
more experience before opening a personal training studio. He decided to
not take the advice and opened a studio downtown. The day that I spoke
with him he was shutting down his studio, I feel for him. I think about
what Donald Trump always says that is learn from the past, live in the
present and dream about the future.

I have heard comments
to the effect that my Web Site is a lot more toned down and there's not
as much gossip and trash talking as there was before. The fact is that
my Web Site has always contained the same positive messages that it
contains now. The difference before was that these messages were
over-shadowed by the constant negativity that I received on my guest
book postings. The guest book allowed cowards to post what they wanted
to anonymously for all the world to view with no return e-mail, so I
always responded back on the guest book, which was amusing to read.
Since my new site does
not contain a guest book, these losers do not have the guts to e-mail me
directly because I would know who it was, and they do not have the guts
to speak so openly if I know who they are. So to answer one of the
remarks that I have heard; No Sir-Earl did not grow Spiritual. I always
have been. But not to the point where if you say something about me, I
will not get you back one way or another; verbally,
business-wise, or on the body-building stage. This year I am letting my
actions do the talking for me. But just remember, I check all my
e-mails, and I am never too busy to reply to the previous cowards that
were so eager to leave messages in the guest book.

1. I Received
a Community Service award for an appearance I made to sponsor the
Student Of The Month Luncheon at Berger-Vandenberg Elementary School in
Dolton. The award was truly a surprise and honor because I make a lot of
appearances, and speak at schools, but do not seek publicity or
recognition for what I do. It is truly from the heart, and to give back
to our kids which are our future. The surprise came about because the
principal came and presented the Award to me at my Club, Ratio 1:1.
Thanks go out to Principal Bennet and the entire staff at the school, I
look forward to visiting you guys again.

Illinois body-building
contest season is about to kick off another year with shows in April, held
in Rockford by Kevin Noble, and Ottawa, Ill by Jeff Johnson. What should
be Illinois' premier show, the State Championship, takes place May 21st.
This was once a show that kicked off careers of some of Illinois greatest
body-builders. The show has since fell from glory and really needs someone
with great potential to win the State Title and carry Illinois on its back
to the National level.
3.
I spoke at a career day event held at Woodgate Elementary School in
Matteson, Ill on February 28th. I really have a passion for
giving back to our youth through sharing my life experiences in the hopes
that they can avoid some of life’s pitfalls. When my time permitted it, I
spoke a lot more, and it is something that I will get back into real soon.
When I was a regular spokesperson for Operation Snowflake, I spoke at a
lot of schools and the students at Woodgate were some of the more
well-behaved and respectful students that I have ever met. Principal King
is doing a great job there. Keep up the good work, and I will see you guys
at the next career day.

Ratio 1:1 had to let go one of its trainers. I felt this person had the
makings to be a great trainer. But he let his mouth write a check his ass
could not cash. This type of egotistical behavior is nothing new to me. I
saw this in another clown that thought he was Mr. Ratio. Here is a word of
advice to these two individuals; "If you want to act like the boss, you
need to own your own first." This is my House. Yes, I am talking to you.

1. Christmas Eve, I
Attended a Service held by the Reverend Senator James Meeks of Salem
Baptist church. This Service was held at Christ Universal temple because
Rev. Meeks is in the process of Building a new Church that will Hold up
to 10,000 Members, right off I-94 and 111th street. The Special thing
about this service was Rev. Meeks and his wife, Jameel, who is a client
at Ratio 1:1, Were renewing their Wedding vows for their 25th
Anniversary. Congrats go out to the Entire Meeks Family.
2. December 30th,
I also attended My Second Mother's (Melenie Whitaker) Retirement party.
After 37 years at the Social Security Administration, she called It Quits.
This was a great Celebration Attended by close Family and Friends. I have
trained Melenie for the past five years and we truly have become close, I
am so proud of her. Actually, Retirement for her is not sitting back
relaxing, Melenie and her sons have a Real Estate Development company.
They have plans to start building in Arizona and Illinois, Good Luck Mom.
3. I heard that Chuck Sanow's show in April has been Cancelled, I read it on his site so if it's
not true, do not shoot the Messenger.
4. I heard that Les
Jennings stopped by Quads recently. I hear that he is doing stand-up
comedy now. Since I have known Les he has tried Bodybuilding, Personal
training, Rap star, Actor and now Comedy - and this has been in the last
five years, what is amazing is that he is talented enough to be good at
all of them, go figure.
5. I
am still hearing things that a Certain Person is still going around saying
about my club and me. Man, after two plus years, give it up. Worry about
the clients that you don’t have Instead of the ones that Ratio1:1 does
have. Bragging about the Houses, Bling and Cars you have. First off, these
are material Possessions that you cannot take with you when you die.
Secondly, check the names on any of them, does your name appear? What
happened to the club that you were building that would put Ratio 1:1 out
of Business? I’m still waiting. I have one last Question how does a has
been that never was, make a comeback?
December, 2004
1) I did attend
the Midwest Ironman contest held November 27th at the Gateway Theatre.
Will Franklin placed second to Nino Sicilano
in the middleweight class.
2) Big Steve Reese
won the Heavyweight Class and overall in the Novice Division. Although
I did not stay for the Open, I heard he placed third in the Open Class.
I spoke with him after his victory in the Novice and he expressed how
he looks forward to me and him competing on stage someday. What my little
brother has to realize, although he is hot at the moment I won a novice
overall ten years ago at 181 pounds. Now ten years later I will step
onstage at 220 lbs. To put it plain, I got much love for you Steve but
I will spank that ass real soon. Be Careful of what you wish for you
just might get it.
3) Anthony ”Herc”
Watkins placed third at the Nationals as a Middleweight, this year he
finally worked with Chad Nicholls. I heard he was very Disappointed
In his Placing and Refused to do Interviews with the major bodybuilding
publications, which if it true is a huge Mistake. I have worked with
herc in 1997 when he placed fourth at the nationals and won the middleweight
class at the junior nationals some of the news does not surprise me.
The major mistake that herc constantly makes is that he is not a Middleweight
anymore. The minute he competes as a Light Heavyweight (187lbs) and
Works with Chad again he will be the best bodybuilder in the country.
Will he finally do it, is the Question.

1.I want to apologize
for this site being down for so long. With all the other things that
go on with running my business, it was hard to focus only on this site.
There are three sites that I am responsible for and if you notice they
have all been revamped. I am constantly trying to improve what we do
as company and re-designing this site is another step in that direction.
On with the news.
2.This news story
I debated long and hard to write about or not because it is near and
dear to my heart. But in the end I felt it is wrong to only report about
what is going on in other people lives but not in my own. The pro boxer
that I was working with for his fight which he won that gave him a 19
and 0 record and a shot at a world title fight within a year was arrested.
Duke”I got Next” Tanner was arrested in September for possession
with intent to distribute cocaine. First, it did not look like much
only a set-up by a close friend who had been busted and turned in duke.
Later in turns out the feds had been watching Duke’s brothers
and crew for years and recently started rounding up a lot of people
close to duke and his family. At the present time they are all sitting
in Jails in Indiana awaiting trial, I will keep you posted on the outcome.
In the months I worked with duke we became close and I think he is a
great guy I hope everything woks out for him. I will be there to support
him anyway I can. I know growing up on the mean streets of the Inner
city myself that one wrong decision can make or break you, be careful
young people about the choices you make. Do not think that something
like this cannot happen to you also.
3.Coming up November 27th
at the gateway theater is the Midwest Iron man classic sponsored by
state chairman Chuck Sanow. I heard that Steve Reese is competing Steve
is on the rise and trying to make a name for himself in bodybuilding.
Will Franklin is competing why I do not know, I think he wants to prove
he still has it, nothing wrong with that we all need something to keep
us stay motivated. I will attend the show so I will let you know how
everything turns out.
4.Charles Durr attempted
a comeback at the North American championship in Cleveland in September.
His 12th place finish was devastating to a guy who won this show 4 years
ago. I talked with Charles leading up to the show and I knew his mind
was not into the show, which at that level you must be 100% focused
or you will get your ass kicked. I hope that this does not stop chuck
from pursuing his lifelong dream of getting a pro card he still has
one of the best physiques ever. Keep your mind in the game chuck and
it will happen for you. Try the master’s national’s old
man.

5.Just in case you
live on another planet and have not heard by now, Ronnie Coleman won

There is a new artist in Chicago named Lupe Fiasco his CD food and liquor

1) Duke won his fight June
25th in grand fashion, with a 3rd round knockout. Everything about Duke
says champion from his preparation, to his entrance, and after his win
he had the class to dedicate his biggest fight in a year to a friend
that was killed recently. That is class. At one of his biggest moments,
it wasn't about him, it was about a friend. That is the kind of guy
Duke is, it's always about helping others.
2) Now let me get to what really irks the f**k out of me, the messages
and e-mail that I have received since the fight has been a lot of negativity.
Mainly from a persons mouth that has been trying to steal my clients,
namely Duke since I took his sorry a** off the streets. The "crabs

are so important and train so many superstars, why can't you afford

training skills. I try to stay away from the B.S. but some things get

1) I attended the junior
nationals and it was the largest national show ever wit over 320 athletes.
The city of chicago has that kind of drawing power that's why they have
held it here for the last three years and will have it here the next
two, the sad part was we only had 1 or 2 competitors that placed top
5 in the
entire show. You do the math.
2) Zu Hare from

class and placed fourth. Zu looked great and was deservant of such a
great placing.congrats Zu from Sir Earl.

at the central U.S.A. Figure Championship on June 12th in Bloomington,Ill.Although
her big show takes place July 10th in Virginia and Chie was at 85of
her best she still kicked major booty.
4) We began shooting footage
for a workout video and personal documentary at quads gym a couple of
weeks ago. Everything went well except for three haters that decided
to complain to the owner who I had already the O.K. with. So they sounded
even dumber than what they looked like. It never ceases to amaze me,
the mentality of people that you have actually taught to make a living
or taking off the streets when they had no place to make a living the
way they repay you.
5) I have been training a
pro boxer named Duke"I Got Next" Tanner out of Gary,Ind. This
guy is 18 and 0 as a professional and he is a beast. He will be the
next light-heavyweight champ of the world within a year. Duke will be
fighting June 25th at the Genesis Theatre. For tickets contact My Jewelers
in Calumet City, IL at 708-730-3100. Please come out and support. It
will be a great night if you are a fight fan.
6) I started watching the
new training video by Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman and if you like throwback
hardcore training this is a must see. You can order it from www.bigroncoleman.net
Tell him Sir Earl sent you.
7) Chie's awesome website
is finally completed. Her new web address is www.figureprodigy.com .
This site is the best bar none. The site was done by Sal Alverez at
www.quaminteractive.com it is not only the best figure web-site,it is
the best site period.
8) Until next month all you
haters keep doing what you do, because it motivates me to keep doing
what I do.
SIR EARL
May,
2004
1). First I must Apologize
to all the people who frequent this web site, as you can tell we are
updating the look of this website. I hope you enjoy it.
2). In our quest to be the
best, in addition to our present two sites, we have launched our third
site named www.figureprodigy.com.
This site belongs to Illinois top figure competitor Miss. Chie Terui.
CHECK IT OUT. Trust me it is HOT!
3). Ratio 1:1 Invested in
a small software company that develops personal training software. For
the past two years. My company was a case study for
This product and I know this will be the best P.T software on the market
within the next two years. The owner made me an offer that I could not
pass up. This is the reason my studios will stay ahead of the field,
we always want to stay cutting edge.
4). A very good
friend of mine, my massage therapist here at ratio 1:1 felica just opened
a full wellness spa at 8545 south Cottage Grove in the Chatham area.
This is a first class operation and when you are in the area you must
visit this spa. The quality of this place will blow your mind.
5). My partner "Big"
Steve Reese placed third at that mid-Illinois championship in Ottawa,
Illnois April 3rd.T his show is ran by Jeff Johnson and one of the toughest
novice shows in the country. A third place at this event is a great
placing, so congrats go out to Steve. His big reward will come at the
Illinois state may 22nd.Stay focused and do you thang boy.
6) I visited Charles
Durr's new studio, it is almost completed and looks great. Chuck was
talking crap as always. We plan to get a few workouts in the near future.
Our workouts are more like war battles, we both love to train hard and
sh** talk at the same time. He is the only person that I know that can
almost out trash talk me; you read the word "almost" right.
I am going to spank his ass when he stops ducking me and come on in
the dungeon.
7) Hope all of you
came out to support the Illinois state that was on May 22nd at the gateway
theater, this is was OUR state show and deserves all of our support.
Also the Junior Nationals are here again . It will be June 18th and
19th in the Rosemont area.
"Sir Earl"
January, 2004
1. Will Franklin, who for
the past year-and-a-half, has worked at Ratio 1:1 as an independent
trainer, has returned home. He's back at Quads Gym. This was a mutual
agreement so please, no rumors. Best of luck.
2. I recently visited my
buddy Chuck Durr's new location. It's a 7,600 square foot studio up
north. For the past two years, Chuck has had some rough personal, health,
business-related moments. That's why seeing him bounce back better than
ever before is great! There are only a few people who can weather the
storm and survive. Chuck is one of those people.
3. Ratioonetoone.com is up
and running. This is truly a great site, although not completely done,
it is still one of the best sites out there.
4. Sirearlsworld.com will
soon undergo a total overhaul! The new site will be dedicated to more
hardcore bodybuilding, local competition coverage and cutting-edge information
on supplements, (over and under the counter) nutrition and training.
5. I will be helping my little
brother, Big Steve, prepare for his show in April. He will surprise
a lot of people this year. Keep your eyes open for his physique –
it's shaping up to be something special.
6. I want to thank everyone
for the support you've shown my family and me during the passing of
my father, Earl C. Bell, Sr. You can read more about my father in my
"Family Life" column.
7. Last but not least, the
time is quickly approaching for the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
This is always a great show. It always serves as great motivation for
my prep for the summer shows.
"Sir Earl"
November, 2003
1.) Condolences go out to
Glenn Sampson and his entire family. Glenn recently lost his mother.
During the time that he was employed at Ratio 1:1, I learned from him
what truly loving and showing appreciation for your mom is all about.
The bond that his mother had with Glenn and his brother Greg was something
special. I can’t begin to imagine the pain and loss he must feel.
Only God knows and can heal the hurt. Please, let’s all keep Glenn
and his family in our prayers.
2.) I briefly spoke with
Charles Durr, who had just been released from the hospital after surgery.
Now please all you gossipers, this was a normal health-related operation.
Please do not spread any outrageous lies about what was simply a normal
situation. Although rumors will be spread anyway, at least tell the
gossipers to check this site so they know the rumors didn’t start
here.
3.) Herc competed at the
Nationals in Miami, but failed to make the Top 15 cut. For a person
that has always placed in the Top 5 every time he competes, this was
a big disappointment. I have said it before, Herc has all the ingredients
to be a successful pro, but he constantly makes two critical mistakes.
The first mistake is trying to compete as a middleweight at 176 pounds,
when he looks his best at 189 pounds. The second mistake is that he
refuses to seek outside help with his preparation. Herc, please pay
Chad Nicholls to dial you in. With his help, you are guaranteed a pro
card. That’s a goal that’s priceless!
4.) The new owner of Quads
has taken over. Ironically, he has the same name as the deceased previous
owner, Tom. He appears to have good plans for the gym. One major improvement
was installing air conditioning, which has been a big complaint over
the years. But it really never bothered the hard core guys that train
there. I really hope that the new owner doesn’t change the hard-core
atmosphere that Quads is known for. Hard core gyms are a dying breed
quickly being replaced by glamour gyms. Quads and U.S.A. Gym are truly
the last real sweat gyms in the area. Let’s keep the serious training
alive!
5.) Ratio 1:1 has
launched its new web site. It is unlike any other fitness site out there!
Check it out at ratioonetoone.com. Meanwhile, the format for sirearlsworld.com
will soon be dedicated to hardcore bodybuilding and local high school
athletes.
September, 2003
1. I spoke with
Anthony “Herc” Watkins recently and he confirmed that he
is in full prep. mode for the nationals in Miami on November 15th. If
he wins his weight class, Herc will be eligible for I.F.B.B. pro status.
I have always expressed that “Herc” has the physique to
be a good pro. Good luck Herc!
I will be down there to show my support and soak up some Florida sun.
2. “Sir Earl’s”
Management Co. is close to finalizing a deal with its first athlete
“Big Steve Reese.” Steve has set his sights on Jeff Johnson’s
show in April. I will be working with Steve on his nutrition and supplement
program. He is going to be an awesome sight to see!
3. Chuck Sanow has announced
that his show will not be held in November. It will be be held December
14 at Lane Tech High School.
4. I recently closed a deal
with contest prep. guru-to-the-pros, Chad Nicholls. He will handle my
contest prep. for the 2004 Illinois State and Jr. Nationals. When you
want to become the best, you hire the best. I will see
all you doubters in June!
5. I recently spoke to my
very good friend Charles “Chucky” Durr and we discussed
his future contest plans. He is in training, but not for a bodybuilding
show -- to run for mayor of Dixmoor, Ill. Go figure! If anybody
can pull this off, it’s Chuck Durr.
Future-of-Fitness,

1.) Although not current
news, I must mention the death of my friend and mentor, Tom Milonvach,
former owner of Quads Gym. He was one of the finest people I ever knew,
and he personally taught me a lot about the business. Tom helped me
through my rough times and I wish he was here today to witness what
my dream has become. I will miss him greatly. I wish that I could achieve
the success he accomplished in this industry.
2.) Only a few weeks after
Tom’s death, his fishing buddy and life-long friend Pete, former
owner of Gold’s Gym in Indiana, was killed in a car accident.
It’s true that you never know when your time is up. I knew Pete
very well and I truly wish his family and friends my deepest regrets.
If I know nothing else, I know the hurt of losing a loved one.
3.) Between Tom at Quad’s
and Pete at Gold’s in Ind., they have produced some of the greatest
bodybuilders to come out of the Midwest. Their gyms and bodybuilding
shows were second to none. The sport of bodybuilding and the gym industry
lost two greats. We owe to them to pick up the torch and take this sport
and industry to the next level.
4.) I recently attended a
birthday celebration for the Rev. Senator Meeks. It was an all-white
gala and I truly had a nice time. I met some of the most powerful people
in politics. Of course it was business so I handed out a lot of cards
and actually signed up a lot of people whose names I won’t mention.
Check out the pictures in the photo gallery.
5.) There are two issues
I need your feedback on, and if I decide to pursue, I will also need
your support:
A.) I was approached to begin
promoting my bodybuilding show again. Although I love promoting my show,
I need to know that the support will be there.
B.) Shawn Ray and I have
been discussing hosting a celebrity muscle camp in conjunction with
the Junior Nationals in Chicago on June 18, 2004. If you do not know
what a muscle camp is, log on to ShawnRay.net for details.
Please email me with your
thoughts and comments on these matters.
6.) My secret weapon, who
I warned you would make an impact in figure competition injured her
foot while preparing for her October show. Don’t worry, she will
recover and be fully prepared to spank some ass! She made the rookie
mistake of dropping a 25-pound plate on her toe, something that we all
have done at some point in our career. I told her it’s her first
battle scar.
7.) It is in the beginning
stages, but by the start of the year, I will begin another venture --
a local athletic management company. Illinois has a lot of talented
bodybuilders, fitness and figure competitors who lack the finances and
contacts needed to excel in this sport. I will attempt to change that.
I challenge other people of power in local bodybuilding to put their
money where their mouth is by putting time and money back into the sport
we say we love so much.

1. The Illinois State Competition
was probably the first quality show seen in a while, with over 100 athletes.
The venue sucks but the show was a blast. I got to hang out with guys
I haven't seen in a while, it was a good time.
2. Two big names notably
absent from the crowd were the promoter Chuck Sanow and my boy Charles
Durr. But I ran into Perry, Tim and Brian Smith, Jeff Geldan, Will Franklin,
John Larrieu, Romie Abdullar, Ricky who won the show 2 years ago, Ivory
Lofton, Ebonie, and a few others who's names I can't remember at this
time.
3. The real show started
at the weigh in. Andy Krychex weighed in as a heavyweight after a potential
career ending accident. Five years ago , I heard he was making a comeback.
But the condition he showed up in was nothing short of amazing, considering
doctors told him he might never walk again after his accident.
4. Then strolled in Ko Chendetka
with a game face on that said I'm here to handle business. He was in
a zone to win this whole show which he did over his mentor Andy Krychex.
Ko Years ago looked great as a middleweight, but moving up to a heavyweight,
he looks phenomenal. Good luck to both these guys at the Jr. Nationals
or U.S.A.
5. Video Review:
Vince Taylor's "Beyond the Masters" is a tape that mentally
stimulates you. If all you are looking for is weights clanging wrong
tape. But if you need mental motivation to stay the course of becoming
a champion, log onto www. Vincetaylor.com and tell him Sir Earl sent
you.
One of the best motivational,
instructions and proper form for hardcore training is a old video called
"To The Extreme with Shawn Ray". If you can't get pumped from
this video, you should be playing volleyball instead of bodybuilding.
Log onto www.shawnray.net once again, tell him Sir Earl sent you.
The Future

1. I attended the Arnold
Classic in Columbus, Ohio recently. The show was O.K., Jay Cutler looked
phenomenal and won easily. Nothing too exciting though when you have
attended 8 to 10 of these shows. It all looks the same.
2. Illinois hottest new figure
competitor, Chie, went for her first time and got to meet all of her
idols like Kelly Ryan, Susie Curry and Monica Brant. The excitement
on her face reminded me of my first visit there. If you have never been
to a show of this level, you are truly missing what the sport is all
about.
3. My fun came from hanging
out with my good friends like Shawn Ray who was so busy that I couldn't
keep up with him and Vince Taylor, who is releasing a hot new video.
I should be receiving an advance copy for my review, shortly. Ronnie
Coleman had so many fans at his booth we only spoke briefly. He assured
me he will win the Olympia again, but I don't know, Jay looks damn good.
And last but not least, Nasser ElSonbaty who is preparing for the night
of champions, He kept me laughing until my side hurt.
4. I heard Chuck Sanow was
preparing for the Jr. Nationals and Masters Nationals, and injured his
leg while playing with his son or nephew. I hope he will recoup in time
to compete. I don't know this to be true; it's only what I heard.
5. I also heard "Zu"
was preparing for the Masters Nationals. My question is if you get blasted
at the Jr. Nationals why would you go to a higher level show, travel
all the way to Virginia or Pittsburg, and get blasted even worse.
6. I saw my boy Chucky Durr,
he looks incredible. He told me not to mention he might do the U.S.A.
and the Masters Nationals, so you didn't hear it from me.
7. Rumors began to circulate
that my club Ratio 1:1 was shut down. This story spread like wildfire.
People were calling me from all over, I guess those that wish for my
downfall jumped to quickly. Ratio 1:1 is alive and well still training
our "A" list of clients like R&B singer, Sparkle, U.S.
Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr., Football players Napolean Harris from
the Oakland Radiers and Harold Blackman from the Seattle Seahawks, and
radio personality Courtney Hicks from 92.3 FM., as well as our numerous
business execs and our consistent faithfuls whom have supported Ratio
1:1 from the start. So while all those trainers over there backstab
each other to get a $8 to $10 hour deadbeat job, we'll just keep doing
what we do.

February, 2003
1) I saw Tommy a few days
ago. He is starting to get a lot healthier. Tom has had a rough year
health wise, but he is quickly getting back to his old self. I personally
have been saying my share of prayers for him, I hope you will also.
2) I Just found out the Illinois
state championship will take place May 24th at Lane Tech High school,
followed by the Junior Nationals at O'Hare Regency, June 17th. Lightning
strikes twice. This combo is the perfect chance for a hometown boy to
step-up and win both shows and help Illinois get the props it deserves.
3) I heard that my suspension
was lifted the first of the year. I really don't know and I have not
personally talked with Chuck yet, but I will soon. I know that I will
not promote my show this year and I don't believe that I will judge
this year either. I heard rumors that I will be doing the Illinois State.
Most people assume even if I commit I will back out anyway. That might
be true, but do you really want it to be your ass kicked to find out
that I did compete this year? Just things that make you go Hmmm?!?!
4) I have been seeing Ivory,
owner of Body By Ivory a lot lately. He joined the church that I attend,
so I run into him most Sundays. We all sometimes must go back to life's
basics and it all begins with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We
both belong to Victory Apostolic Church in Chicago Heights, where our
powerful Pastor Singleton preaches on Sundays. You should stop in and
one Sunday.
5) I have been training my
new secret weapon that will take the Fitness/Figure competition to a
new level this year. We have not yet decided what show she will make
her claim to fame at. But you know I will keep you posted.
P.S.
To all the haters and naysayers out there, please keep doing what you
do…asking dumb questions and spreading lies. It makes for interesting
info for my site, and without you betting against me I probably would
have given up a long time ago. So those people that doubt me deserve
some of the credit for my success. So thank you, idiots!!
Sir Earl
November, 2002
1. Owner of Quads
Gym South, Tom, is currently recovering from heart surgery and recently
suffered minor injuries in a car accident. Without the vision of Tom
some 20 years ago in the gym business, there would not be a lot of guys
owning gyms today. I personally wish him a speedy recovery. Hurry back
Tom, the gym misses you!
2. Apologizes go out to all
who support this website, for the late updates. Due to the unexpected
death of Michele's father, Earl Coleman, everything else became secondary.
Michele is the person who is responsible for bringing my visions and
thoughts to life on this website. Sometimes you do not realize how close
you are to some one until tragedy strikes. My thoughts and prayers are
with Michele, her mom and fiancé Chris. Keep your heads up guys.
3. Congrats go out to Steve
Reese. He placed 5th and 2nd respectively at the Midwest Ironman, in
the Open and Novice divisions. I am extremely proud of Steve, he had
a goal for years to get back on stage and did it all by himself. I assisted
him with some last minute prep and he looked great. Although Steve and
I have had some ups and downs. He is still a little brother to me. It
always makes me wonder when people make comments that I treated my employees
and friends so horrible. Why is it that I am still good friends with
most everybody who has ever worked for me?
4. I had the pleasure of
being present when the underdog, independent Rev. James Meeks defeated
the overwhelming favorite, democrat, William Shaw for state senator.
Ratio 1:1 trains quite a few people in the Meeks camp, so I got to see
and hear a lot of the behind the scenes activity and it was truly a
work of art. The teamwork and focus put into that election by every
person from highest to lowest has motivated me beyond comprehension.
Rev. Meeks' victory has instilled in me that with focus, hard work and
a team's unselfish effort, we underdogs can reign victorious.
5. Tidbits: Congrats to Jesse
Jackson Jr. for his re-election to congress. He's not a great singer,
but one helluva person.
6. In the headset: If you
are not listing to Eminem's two new cuts from his 8 Mile Soundtrack,
your ass is missing the boat. In terms of motivation and making a great
comeback, this is pushing me to new levels.

September, 2002
1) I spoke with Chuck Sanow
today and was told that the rumors surrounding my suspension from the
N.P.C. were true. The reasons varied and probably included the complaints
from Ivory. Some reasons He stated dated back 3 years or more. This
was more of a surprise, because I was never told about them or was I
given any official notification.
2) Glenn is no longer training
at ratio 1:1. He decided that it was time to go independent. Glenn was
with me for four years and it became like a marriage that had it's ups
and downs. We both felt that a fresh start was needed. I have learned
that personal training is a tough field to survive in and I wish Glenn
much success in the real world.
3) This site always seems
to create controversy no matter how positive it was meant to be. I have
always spoken my mind and will continue to do so. Everybody experiences
highs and lows in their lives. The trials of being a business owner
are something that anyone who has traveled this path can relate to.
Everything I have been through is a test and when you are at your lowest
you find out who your real friends are. The good thing is that life
goes in cycles and everybody gets his or her turn. Tough times don't
last, tough people do.
4) The good news in all this
madness is that with the addition of Reverend James Meeks campaign office
next door to Ratio 1:1, my club is starting to attract some high profile
singers, actors, and politicians. I will not give names because these
clients joined ratio 1:1 because of the privacy element of not being
in a public health club.
P.S. I will continue
to pray for those who persecute me, as well as those who support me.
May god bless you all?
Sir Earl
THE HOT
NEWS ARCHIVE
August,
2002
1. My show, the Midwest Bodybuilding
Challenge has been officially cancelled for this year only. There have
been a lot of rumors surrounding this decision so I want to go on record,
as saying the truth behind my decision is simple. This temporary decision
is due primarily to the lack of support last year from athletes and
spectators. The other reason is because there are other business ventures
I had on hold that I want to pursue; the bodybuilding world will witness
these ventures by year-end.
2. I heard Chuck Sanow won
his class at the Masters Nationals recently, but lost the overall title
and pro-card that goes with it to Johnny Stewart from North Carolina.
Chuck is the only guy I know that can take one or two years off, come
back and win a major national title but come up short of getting his
pro-card. Seems like it's the old always a bridesmaid but never a bride
syndrome.
3. I finally made it to this
page; I heard Sunday that I was banned from the N.P.C. for defamation
of character for expressing my views about Ivory. I have not been notified
of anything, and I very seriously doubt it to be true. People in the
Illinois bodybuilding community need to understand I only express my
opinions. My comments are not meant to be personal. They are just my
views. Everyone has them! When you want to express yours either sign
the guest book on my site or bring your cheap asses into the 20th century
and spend the money to get your own website!
4. Remember the song "Why
do fools fall in love?" The words are alive and well at Quads Gym.
Case in point, competitor and former South Holland police officer, John
Reese resigned his position and moved to Norway to be with his new bride.
I wish John the best of luck.
5. After being banned
from Quads Gym, it's rumored that Will Franklin is looking to open a
gym or a personal training studio. We will keep you posted…
Comments:
I just wanted to comment on something. Throughout my trials and tribulations
this past year, my sense of respect has grown for two individuals. Zu
and Ivory are people who normally make news on this website for different
reasons. My opinions about those reasons have not changed, but I give
props where props are due.
Zu - For the state of Illinois
a lot of competitors, myself included talked the talk, but Zu walked
the walk. This guy has had some hardship in his life, but still managed
to put it together and win his class at the Illinois State.
Ivory - After going through
the challenging experience of running a studio, I give props to Ivory
for lasting so long in this business. It ain't as easy as it looks people.
Until next time, Peace Out
& God Bless,
My World,
Sir Earl
