March 2010 - Hot News

1.  Sometime around early to mid April, Ratio 1:1 and Sir Camelot productions will air its weekly half-hour fitness show, entitled “Fit and Fabulous.” The two on-air personalities will be Chie and Britney Rand, with yours truly doing a live version of “Sir Earl’s World” on a regular basis. If you enjoy the site, boy you don’t want to miss the TV show. We have our dates, time and channel set, but I’ll reveal that next month.

2.  I am currently training harder than I have in years. “Do I plan to do a show?” and “which show am I doing?” are frequently asked questions lately. The answer is check back next month when I will reveal those answers. I have so many business projects going on, but I have the burning desire to see where I stand among the best bodybuilders. So we’ll see.

3.  Our new trainer and current Midwest Bikini Overall Champion, Britney Inez Rand, is starting her prep for the junior nationals, this June in Chicago. Britney looks great and after destroying “the Midwest show” for her first time onstage, we feel she will accomplish her goal of becoming Illinois’ first bikini pro.

4.  We just returned from The Arnold Classic: it was a great show as always. We were so busy with Chie competing in the amateur portion of the show that I didn’t get to kick it with my boys like I usually do. The placing was:

  1. Kai Greene
  2. Phil Heath
  3. Branch Warren
  4. Dexter Jackson
  5. Tony Freeman
  6. Ronny Rockel

5.  Last, but not least, Chie’s fitness career has taken off in so many different directions that it is impossible to elaborate on all of them here. Here’s a brief snapshot of what’s been happening:

  • Her first major magazine cover and feature story came out in February.
  • Chie has also done a video and interview for the online magazine Muscular Development to be featured in their In the Trenches section.
  • She did a video and photo shoot for a site called herbiceps.com
  • Chie had the greatest showing of her career by placing 3rd at the Arnold Amateur Figure International this March.
  • Chie is also on the brink of signing a major endorsement deal with a growing protein supplement company.

That’s just a little news on Chie. More information will be on her website soon. Click on: Figure Prodigy

November 2009 - Hot News

1.  I recently had an opportunity to be flown out to the Mr. Olympia in Las Vegas for a photo shoot and interview that Chie had with a major magazine from Tokyo, Japan. I was extremely proud of her and the progress that she’s making in her figure career. This magazine is equivalent to our muscle and fitness and is actually endorsed by the IFBB. Normally they only cover the best pros, but they wanted Chie and all she holds at this time is a state title. It will come out in Japan around the first of the year. Also, while we were out there we got to see one hell of a show.

2.  Jay Cutler was the surprise winner, but I can honestly say he deserved to win. He was the best he has ever looked. The show was great but the most fun was getting to hang out with good old friends. I met a lot of people that I respect in the sport, but my boy Shawn Ray really took care of Chie and I. We kicked it with floor seats at the Olympia, his after party at Club 54, and the all-star seminar with all the top competitors in the sport - all free. I will be treating him to dinner when I see him at the Arnold Classic. I owe him that much, shout out to my boy Shawn Ray, Thanks for everything you did to make Chie’s first visit to Las Vegas and the Olympia a special occasion.

3.  I recently tried to come into the present and joined face book. I thought it was worthless at first but found out the number of people you can reach is priceless. So I urge all you old heads to join and hit me on face book also.

4.  I want to thank Chie and the staff of Ratio 1:1. We are celebrating our first full year of being in our Glenwood location. Moving and then being hit with this economy, it’s only by the grace of God that things are still going well for us. We are celebrating with a Client Appreciation Brunch on November 14th from 11:00 til 2:00. We are going to have free food, music, raffle give-a-ways and much much more. For all the details log onto The Ratio 1:1 web site.

5.  Recently, we had the closing of Diamonds Gym in Orland Park. Also the relocation of the gym where I first started my career “Body by Ivory’s.” He moved his gym from Richton park to Frankfort now to Homewood. This is a tough business in tough times. I wish all gyms much success. This is not just a job to us. To most of us it’s a dream and a passion.

June 2009 - Hot News

1.  The first bit of great news is the accomplishment of a very long sought after goal for Chie and I, a 1st place finish for Chie at the 2009 Illinois State Figure Championship, held May 16th. This goal started in 2003 with Chie finishing 5th, then followed by three 2nd place finishes and then in 2007 her worst placing since 2003, a 4th place. This really forced us to go back to the drawing board, get focused and come back stronger than ever. Perseverance, never giving up, a lot of cardio and dry ass chicken breast took Chie to #1 in the state. More information will be on her website soon: Figure Prodigy

2.  I have not attended a local bodybuilding show in a long time and got to see some guys I have not seen in years. These are just a few of many that I can remember: Brian and Tim Smith, Jeff Gildean, Nino and Rommy, Reginald Anderson, Chuck Sanow and Jeff Johnson, just to name a few. It was a great time seeing these legends of Illinois bodybuilding, but the highlight of my day was meeting Chad Nichols. Chad is the man that works on nutrition for all the best guys in the business, 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, Dennis Wolf and Flex Wheeler, just to name a few. Chad is what I strive to become in my next phase of bodybuilding, so it was a great pleasure to meet and talk with him.

3.  Speaking of me getting my Chad on, in addition to working with Chie, I also worked with Alex Tyler from Oklahoma. Alex came here to use the Illinois State Novice Division as a warm-up before his bigger show, the Oklahoma State Championship. Alex won his class in great fashion here, but didn’t get the Oklahoma State, as we would have liked. Oklahoma has great competitors and going into the open is a whole other level. This did not deter Alex A.K.A “The Beast.” It taught us a lot and we are already preparing for his next show. Alex has pro potential written all over him, now it’s just a matter of time and focus to get to that level. Great job to Chie and Alex.

4.  Also competing was my good friend from Bloomington, Brian White. I talk with Brian often and it’s always great to see him and his wife Pam, these are really two great people. I didn’t find out until that morning that Brian was doing the show. Next time let me know and we can dial it in like it’s supposed to and crush some guys. These guys that beat you are not better, just better prepared. Holler at me sooner next time, Brain.
